Course Description

Governor Newsom just signed a large number of new bills that change specific California state labor laws dramatically. Employers are now required to submit numerous reports to the government agencies about their workplaces (COVID cases, outbreaks, pay rates, etc.); provide new types of paid and unpaid leave to employees; and follow recent strict amendments to laws governing relationships with independent contractors, that include 67 exceptions.

This webinar will help attendees understand the new requirements and hear some excellent tips on becoming aware and protecting your own business and the business clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the new COVID laws that required employers to report positive cases no later than October 17, 2020, and expand paid COVID leave for employees

  • Recognize how the new law protects workers’ jobs during 12-24 weeks of leave per year for businesses with five or more employees

  • List the newly revised requirements for information on paystubs and record-keeping for all employers

  • Recognize how the new law provides attorneys for claimants in Labor Commissioner hearings and requires employers to reimburse a claimant’s legal fees

  • Identify the new laws governing contractor relationships and requiring employers to provide employee benefits to their “independent” contractor workers
